Nickel finish was fairly common on model 19s, but if it looked good shape when you bought and is now flaking I`d consider it suspect. On some models they would also put the serial number on the frame, cylinder, and sometimes on the grips, but varied by model. Sometimes there was really no rhyme nor reason to what S&W did/does.I think I'm finally in the right place to get some answers.
